Endowed of the tower called "de la Reine Margot" , Verdun sur Garonne, up to the XIth century was called Vicomté de Gimoez, and was an important stronghold and trading port.

Today the medieval tower, the XIVth to XVIIIth century monuments and half-timbered houses are a reminder of the past wealth of Verdun sur Garonne.
The canton's heritage is rich in its natural and architectural sights:

  • Aucamvillein this countryside area with many streams, you can visit the boatmen's chapel and the Gaillou windmill.
  • Beaupuy see the Chateau of the Lords of Beaupuy with it's chapel and stables overlooking the Garonne river.
  • Bouillac was one of the most beautiful sites of Christiandom. One can admire the XVIIIth century reliquary, the ruins of Saint Selve abbey and its museum located in the church.
  • Saint Sardos this is one of the main outdoor leisure activity areas of the Tarn and Garonne Department. Landscaped between the Boulet and Combecaves lakes it includes a 750m2 swimming pool. Here you can find accommodation and taste the local dishes in the restaurants and take the time for a wine tasting visit of the "Cave de Saint Sardos".
