The motto of the town is " Port I was, vineyard I stay "

The Romans started the wine making here and built the port. In the XIXth century it was very busy with the exportation of Graves wine.

At Chateau Mongenan, visit the botanic gardens whose design was inspired by the philosopher-botanist Jean Jacques Rousseau, and where you can admire more than a1000 different species of roses. Also visit the museum in the château.
Thanks to the new Halte Nautique, Portets motto could be " Vinyard I am, port I am again ".
In the church note the beautiful XVIth century polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin Mary with child.
