In the past Port Sainte Marie was a pilgrimage site. Before the construction of the Canal du Midi, boatmen would pray here to the Virgin Mary to protect them along the dangerous river journey from Toulouse to Bordeaux.

Visit the churches and stroll through the old streets with their half-timbered and corbelled medieval houses.
