In 1144 Alphonse Jourdain fell in love with the site. He founded the town and called it "Mountalba".

Montauban is a beautiful and bustling big town. Its flourishing economy is based on both agriculture and high tech. However, the inhabitants take their time to savour life...

Listen to their wonderful Occitan accent and rolling 'r's at the colourful open-air markets, as you stroll between the stalls of apples, pears, peaches, red cherrys and crimsom strawberrys, sweet juicy plums, golden grapes and muscatel-flavoured melons.

The work of two local lads, the painter Jean-Auguste Dominique INGRES and the sculptor Emile Antoine BOURDELLE, can be admired at the Ingres museum.
