In the past, navigation on the Garonne was risky and there is a boat men's legend that says that the barge trade was protected by the giant Virgin Mary statue, Notre Dame de Bonne Encontre. The legend says that the Virgin Mary comes down to the river every year during the May pilgrimage to have a sacred pee!!

The village is on the site of Gallo-Roman town. A Gallo-Roman mosaic floor has been discovered intact and can be seen exhibited in the XIth century Sainte Radegonde church.
