Pierre Paul Riquet
Man of exception, Pierre Paul Riquet was the first to define a viable layout in the many time aborted project of a Channel connecting the Mediterranean to the Garonne. He was also the one which eliminated the problem of the Channel's water supply thanks to its great knowledge of the ground.
With support of the King Louis XIV and his Finance Minister: Colbert, Pierre Paul Riquet devoted the last years of its life to the installation of this gigantic building site, surprisingly modern for the time.
This Canal is a masterpiece
that every one should see.
