Moissac
National Heritage Romanesque cloister
On one of the ancient pilgrimage roads to Santiago de Compostella, the VIIth century romanesque cloister of Saint Peter's Abbey has 76 arches, each depicting the life of a different saint. While in the in the abbey, admire the polychrome sets. The south portal is a jewel of XIIth century architecture.
Then visit the center for Romanesque art where you 'll see iconographical documents on illumunation, medieval wall-painting and the use of colours in the middle-ages.
Visit the old abode restructured Margueritte Vidal Museum with its regional arts.
Going through the city , wander down the Rue Jean Moura, where workshops of craftsmen and artists will be pleased to show you their stained-glass, porcelain, lace, paintings etc
On the water banks
By feet or sailing, rendez-vous at the mooring station. On the canal lateral to the Garonne river 's banks, a small bridge will take you to the Tarn River and its watermill. In the past it use to be a important stop over for the transport of merchandise.
Take a stroll to the National Heritage Pont Cacor canal bridge, built in 1853 and passing over to the Tarn river walkto the pool along the canal's towpath in the shade of its huge plane trees.
Midi-Pyrenees principal fruits grower
Golden and sweet chasselas grapes have been a speciality of Moissac for 100 years.
The pulp translucent Chasselas grape is milky white, more or less golden, but not coppery.
Built in 1933 on the Tarn river banks is the pavillon de l'Uvarium where one can go on a Chasselas Doré based diet.
