Agen was once a celtic oppidum and then an important city in roman times. Now the capital of the Lot et Garonne Departement, the city is also the prune capital of France.

After four locks, the Canal des Deux Mers crosses over the Garonne on the " Pont Canal d'Agen " built by the engineer Jean Baptiste Baudre. The canal bridge is 580 metres long and has 23 arches, each 20 metres wide.
