In 1994 ,a nomination as UNESCO World Heritage was proposed by the Navigable Wareways of France.

This record is mainly out of the Revel congress house. During theses sessions all the people concerned where aware of the necessity to save the Canal du Midi or Canal des Deux-Mers. Protect and insure its tomorrows were the historians, économics, associations, politics and scientifcs concern.

In June 1995 the Languedoc-Roussillon, Midi-Pyrénées and Aquitaine regions in partnership with the French Minister of Culture approuved the World Heritage candidature.

Mandated by the UNESCO, ICOMOS experts came to see the Canal du Midi.
On December 6th 1996, out of 147 countrys, UNESCO 21 board members nominated 33 world beauty spots . And so, the Canal du midi. (Original: la dépêche du Midi, J.Jalabert)

Registered as World Heritage in the Pierre Paul Riquet masterpiece :
The Canal du Midi from Toulouse to the etang de Thau, the seuil de Naurouze and the water supply system as well as the interesting civil engineering works of that time.

It comes to mind that each one of us has the duty to support and care for this " wonder of Europe " as Vauban use to say about it. This noble, man made waterway, contributed to the cultural and economic well- being of humanity.
